At University Prep Academy, our teachers are called Advisors.We feel this more adequately defines their role in relationship to each student and his or her parent or guardian. Just like a traditional teacher, our advisors provide direct learning and classroom management. But, we differ in other significant ways:
- Goals are driven by the students, not administration
- Focus is still on academics, but also the mental and social growth and development of all students
- Classroom ratio is one advisor/teacher to 17-18 kids (1:17-18 versus 1:30-35)
- Advisors are facilitators of student's interests and passions, as well as personal trainers for the students and advocates for helping them empower themselves
