TEEN CEO PROJECTS

Every student participating in either an 8th grade Job Shadow or high school Internship were required to also complete a project to demonstrate learning that occurred. The projects were shared with other students, as well as community members at a Job Fair hosted in June. The 8th grade students also showcased their Job Shadow projects at their 8th Grade Promotion Celebration so all of their family and friends could see their work.

Students were asked to complete a tri-fold board the incorporated the folllowing information:

In addition, all students were required to prepare an oral presentation about their experience.
Additionally, every 8th grade students had to create a PowerPoint presentation to accompany their tri-fold board.

9th Grade:
Ferris State University + Yeti
Internship focus: Learning software common to the video gaming industry, testing games in progress and reporting back on specifics to be analyzed, and discovering patterns in game play

God's Kitchen
Internship focus: Learning the total spectrum of congregate dining, including receiving food donations and supplies, stocking pantry, selecting food for the meals, utilized recipes with direction and creating salads that were very appealing for delivery to outlying off-site locations

The Highlands Golfcourse
Internship focus: Learning  to prevent or cure erosion, researched the different types of wildlife on the golf course, and researched cures for eliminating or discouraging unwanted wildlife such as mice, deer

Grand Rapids Griffins
Internship focus: Rotated through several departments within the sports organization to provide an overview or sampling of the different departments of a sports team; researched other sports teams, including identification and summary of corporate sponsors, game promotions, ticket sales ideas and pricing; and worked with ticket fulfillment and operations department learning what goes on behind the scenes

Grand Rapids Police Department
Internship focus: Learning the various components of city government, specifically public safety and the criminal justice system; observed police officers (SRT + Detectives), emergency dispatchers, forensic scientists, firefighters, district court judges (court proceedings) and helped maintain the cleanliness of the city's emergency fleet; and participated in a police decision-making simulator and operating the bomb team's robot

Grand Rapids Public Museum
Internship focus: Three interns created an exhibit for Collecting A-Z; exchanged L is for Light to L is for LIKE: Our Fashion Story that includes a voting element (thumbs up or down) on which student picked the best items (you vote with coins); students researched and selected artifacts and wrote narrative to accompany each piece

Tanaz Salon + Samaria J's
Internship focus: Learning about the day-to-day operations of running a salon - cleanliness, merchandising, confirming appointments; shadowed a stylist and learned highlight and color techniques, curling and nail services

The University Club
Internship focus: Creating and executing a weekly feature special; learned the business of being a chef and managing a kitchen; shadowed various chefs

Varnum
Internship focus: Learning the different aspects of a law firm by interviewing and engaging various staff; wrote articles and personal reflections on experience that were shared with colleagues

Warner Norcross + Judd
Internship focus: Learning the many different aspects of a law firm by participating in different departments, including human resources, records, etc.

YMCA - Daycare
Internship focus: Learning to blend personal love of music to infuse and teach preschool children; wrote songs and sung them with the class; made a flannel board
